Someone who leads by example and not just by using words.  All the great leaders I worked cared about their employees, had their back in situations that required it and set up their employees to do well and not fail.

Several really good qualities and attributes captured so far with the responses. Here’s two cents....

- Servant Leader

- Lead by Example & Do What You Say

- Integrity,  Honesty & Humility

- Respects for others and their opinions

- Sets expectations clearly, holds accountable and follows up

- Utilizes métrics and KPIs - does not rely solely on intuition or opinion

- Recognizes and rewards good behaviors and good performance/ results

- Open to listening to concerns and new ideas

Leaders have to start by being great servants and understanding what is needed to complete the task or mission. Great leaders are not born they are made and are not necessarily the promoted type, but people that are sought out by other s because of what they represent, their knowledge, that they are trusted, tested and are mentors instead of dictators. Leaders prepare and promote their people to be better than they are, prepare them to leave and be sought after, yet treat them in a way that they never want to leave. Great Leaders are not afraid of or threatened by their own people but desire for them to rise to each challenge and become the best they can be. Great leaders make the hard choices, tough decisions and then move forward! Its not about being a friend or a buddy or a nice guy, its about making decision, making sure your people have everything they need to succeed, not stressing the process or the how but the end conclusion and completing the mission, its not about managing, its about being a leader.

They talk from their heart.

There is a very successful hotel/ conference center owner in our area. Everyday, you can see him help out where help is needed, be it bringing dishes to a table, helping figure out a bill, or scheduling an event for a local charity. He always carries a little notebook, so he doesn't forget what he needs to do.

In the community, he is known for his generosity. He has one of the most loyal staff around. Why? He isn't afraid to get dirty. He keeps a pulse on what's going on in the trenches. He gives back.

From a staff perspective, he is approachable. He has given first jobs to many people. You know he's in charge, but he has also a reliable team of people that he refers to as needed.

That's why he is successful.

For my experience the leader start with YOU❣️
People that will join your team certainly  don’t have to feel a part. When you make them feel included and If you are a good motivator that will go naturally.  They need You but YOU need THEM.

Challenger, good listener , those people who wants to make a change and innovate to show the difference.

Strong 💪 and try to reach your goals each year.

Always be willing to answer questions. No matter how irrelevant they seem to you. My motto - W.A.I.T. - WHY AM I TALKING? 2 ears, 1 mouth. There's a reason for that. Share your knowledge with those willing to learn. You're not going to be around forever. Your knowledge, name, integrity & honesty are your legacy.

Great leaders have to have several qualities chief among them the ability to see the "Big Picture" without loosing sight of, and appreciation for, the little pieces and their roll in creating that picture. Great leaders always ask "How can I help you do your job better?".

Good leaders lead by example. These leaders have two qualities, charisma and integrity.
