We usually  give product to a couple of members of our sales team let them show it to our current customers and get feed back and then launch product if it will fill a need to our customers or new customers.

I suggest a small test group of friends, family and select clients.

Hi Joe--your answer depends on what inspired you to create the new product/service. Did it come from comments from a current client base or is it a fresh idea you've just come across? If it's the first, go back to those who suggested it and get their feedback for it, and if it's the latter, put together some questions and opportunities for interactive feedback targeted at who your envisioned consumer is. Perhaps you have done some of this already, which is ideal! In the end, you want to let consumers know you have created something they've demanded and there is no better place to go than you--don't be stingy with sharing what you've conceptualized and begun. If it's truly exceptional, the competition can't just implement it overnight! And if it's great, be complimented when they try to!

Here in Butte, Montana we have fairs like, the folk festival, Art walk. Where you can rent a booth for a weekend and bring your products and or service to display your talents. You can find these kind of events through facebook local you can download the fb local app and it will tell you what is going on around your town.

Also you can try if your on a limited budget do a facebook event and either hold it in your store or out on a sidewalk where you will get more eyes on your product.

Is it a physical, information or service product? Eitherway, I'm a fan of using a low budget Facebook ad to either show or explain the product. You can spark discussion around it, or get immediate impressions.

Disclosure: I manage FB ads for a living.

But shoot, it works. I'm testing a new FB service product for local based businesses this week.

Let me know if I can be of any further help.

If it is a product you can certainly have a market research company pull your demographic audience and do a study on likes and dislikes of product prior to going out to market.  If you have a proven demographic you can do a mail chimp survey

Identify some end users and let them try it out.  Get their feedback on form, fit, and function.  Make any necessary adjustments before launching en masse.

Yes, begin with your family and friends.  They give the best critiques.

I usually run a campaign through Constant Contact to gauge industry interest
