I love having a HR Dept. There are far too many laws to learn regarding hiring, firing, payroll, and benefits. It saves me so much stress to be able to rely on HR to deal with these issues and to guide me.
HR has become extremely prevalent in the last two years or so, especially with the #metoo movement. NYS in particular, having passed the mandatory sexual harassment trainings for all employers no matter their head count speaks volumes to that. A true HR professional costs pretty penny for business owners, that's why many outsource HR functions to a company like mine (ADP). Whether they choose to staff an HR professional for lets call it, at least $80,000 or utilize outsourcing services like an ADP provides, it is worth it in the long run as one HR lawsuit whether it be for harassment or wrongful termination, can be debilitating to a business.
