I had a new car loan with B of A about 25 years ago and it was on autopay so they just took the monthly payment out of my checking account every month for the 48 months. They told me the last payment had to be made in person at a branch. When I went to a branch to make the last payment, which should have been around $325., I was told I owed $1,000. Since I missed a few payments over the past 4 years.
That, of course was impossible and it took them 6 months to figure out their bookkeeping error. They finally told me I only owed them one last payment of $325.
then about 15 years ago, after I fired an employee, he went to a few of my clients and demanded payments from them. Some actually gave him some money, $21,000 to be exact. He went to his bank, B of A and they allowed him to open a checking account under my company name without any proof that he had the power to open an account in mu company name. He then deposited the money he collected and used that money for personal gain.
When I went to his branch of B of A I was told that he had promised to come back in with the proper documentation needed to open the account but he never did. The corporate attorneys for B of A told that branch manager that they had made a massive mistake and to add my name to the bogus account and allow me to close it out which only gave me $3,000.
They are a terrible bank.

I spent much of my working life running a marketing & advertising agency so I can tell you the most important things to do.
1st thing is get to know your competition. See what they are doing to promote their business. Watch for their print ads, listen for their radio ads and watch for their TV ads. You can always call those papers, radio or tv stations and ask for a sales rep to visit you and they will be more than happy to tell you all about what your competition is doing and how much they are spending on their media.
These reps want you to spend at least that much with them so they will tell you everything. Next determine who your customer is. What demographic you are trying to reach. Once you know that you can pinpoint that customer on the radio stations they listen to and on the TV shows they watch based on the ratings.
Unless you are targeting a senior customer, age 65+, stay away from newspapers as their readership and circulation are shrinking every year, hence the number of papers that have gone under over the past 20 years.
If you are targeting a young demo, internet advertising may be right for you but I am not yet convinced that it is effective.
Remember that in any ads you run, the most important part of your ad is NOT your name, address and phone number. The most important part of your ad is...What makes you better than everyone else that is doing essentially the same thing!
Get those points across and the potential customers will listen or watch for your name, address and phone number. Hope this helps you, good luck.

Our state allows self employed to apply. I spent many hours trying to complete the application but it requested some documentation and never indicated how to get that documentation to them. The website offered 3 phone numbers for assistance. The local number must have been disconnected since every day I just get a fast busy signal. The 800 # and the other number are busy all day long and I have been calling about every 5 minutes for a week now.
I assume they just don’t want to help any of the self employed so they make it impossible to complete the application.
I was happy to find out that my business was considered an essential business but it doesn’t help when most if my clients tell me they can not allow any vendors on the premises until further notice.

My business is a small sign and lighting company and the majority of our clients are national chain restaurants and hotels. We have been told that we cannot be on the premises until this Pandemic is over so we sit at home and hope we can pay our bills each month.

our family did host exchange students twice when my kids were in school and they were about the same age as the exchange students. We enjoyed having them and we learned as much from them as they did from us. The only reason we would not host any longer is that out kids are grown and long gone both Majors in the USAF. Without my kids around to keep the exchange students occupied during off periods, we would feel compelled to drop what we are doing to keep our guests busy.

I spent much of my business life in advertising and marketing so when I am doing signs and lighting for new customers, I often give them some advice about how to market their business.
Usually the question I am asked is, “what is the difference between marketing and advertising.”

Usually the question I am asked is, “what is the difference between marketing and advertising.”
Marketing begins with researching the market to see if there is a need for the product or service. Often that begins with focus grouos with various demographics and showing or describing the product or service to small groups of consumers and documenting the feedback.
After the product or service has been marketed then the sales begins. The sAles staff should be well versed on the benefits of the product or service and trained to be able to respond to any and all questions and/or objections.
Good sales oeople shiukd always remember that nobody likes to be sold but everyone loves to buy. It’s human nature. I always trained my sales staff to get the prospect comfortable by telling him or her that you are not there to sell them anything...but hopefully they will see all the benefits of your product or service and want to buy it.

I spent over 35 years in the marketing and advert industry after getting my degree in Communications at Temple University back in 1972 after taking many classes in that subject.
I have found that when I opened my own businesses the first thing I did was thoroughly research my competition to find out whatbthey were doing right and wrong. I created a logo for each business that made my local business give the impression that I was a local franchise if a multinational corporation. Logos are very important as the marketing departments at McDonalds or Coke or Nike can attest to.
To me a great logo and a motivating slogan line is what any business beeds to gain market share.
Of course once thise customers call you, you had better have the goods to back up your slogan as you rarely get a 2nd chance to make a great and lasting Impression.

I have had clients or prospects that I could tell really wanted me to service their signs and lights but confused that money was too tight at the moment to have the work done.
I've offered to do the work and allow them 90 days with no interest and 3 payments in order to make it easier on their cash flow. Sometimes that has worked for me.
