(more) Your new website should serve as the foundation from which your marketing and promotional efforts grow and evolve.  In addition, it should also become the "catch-all" to which all your marketing and promotional efforts are directed. Just like most things in business, what you get out of your new website will be directly proportionate to what you put into your website.  There are lots of things that you will need to do both "ON SITE" and "OFF SITE" to give your site, your brand and your books visibility online. 1) Make sure your new website is properly configured to allow all the major search engines to crawl the site and get the site properly indexed. 2) Make sure your new website (and most importantly your individual books) is/are properly configured with title tags, meta tags and relevant content that will give the search engines what they need to properly promote your site and the specific books as organic (non-paid) search results when someone types the title of the book (for example) in the search engines. 3) Make sure your e-commerce / checkout system is intuitive and fully functional so your prospective customers are not stuck or frustrated when they attempt to purchase the books online. 4) Make sure you have a comprehensive website analytics mechanism in place to capture and collect all the metrics and analytics data from your website so you can make informed decisions related to your promotions, online advertising campaigns and understand how people are finding your website. 5) Make sure you have multiple avenues available from your website for prospective customers to contact you if they have questions about your books / products when purchasing them online.  (Phone, Live Chat, Contact Forms, Email, etc). 6) Make sure each of your products pages are configured in such a way that they are properly displayed when being shared and/or displayed on Social Media including OG images and relevant descriptions. 7) Use your existing social media networks and other networking platforms (such as Alignable) to list and promote your books online and push these viewers to specific landing pages on your new website. 8) Work with relevant groups and organizations who may have specific interest or reason to cross promote your books to expand visibility into their networks and then drive those customers to your website. 9) Build email and contact databases that can be used to promote new publications to existing customers when they are released. 10) Consider building online marketing campaigns through advertisements and other channels to make your books visible to prospective buyers and direct this traffic to specific landing pages on your new website. These are just ten things which I think will significantly help you get started with the promotion of your books on your new site, however there are many, many other things that can also be done which can dramatically improve the overall visibility of not only your products (books), but also your brand and your website as well. I hope this gives you a good foundation upon which to get the ball rolling.  If you have any questions about the items I have outlined above, please feel free to contact me directly for further guidance or clarification. Hope this helps, and good luck with your book sales!

Be sure to get in and update your WordPress site (and your plugins and your themes) and do it regularly!  The best way to avoid a surprise is to keep everything up-to-date. There are many free themes which can also be used, however the trouble with FREE is that they are often not supported for very long or have other issues which make them less desirable than a well-built premium theme.  The same goes with the plugins that you might choose to use with your website.  There are some that are very good and free, but most of the quality plugins that you would want to have on your site will have some amount of small fee associated with them.  This is a good thing as it means the developers are being compensated for their efforts and as the result they will be around to support the software over the long term.  The other important component of this is your domain name and web hosting. Be sure to get a domain name that is consistent with your business name and make sure the web hosting provider is providing SSL security and nightly backups.  Hope that helps!

(more) BNI (Business Network International) is a great place for new business owners to get out and meet other business owners and representatives in their community.  As some others have suggested in this thread, its important to find a BNI group that is a good fit for your business.  If you are a B2B (Business to Business) vs a B2C (Business to Consumer) then you will want to find a group that is largely set up with other companies that are also B2B or B2C. It's a very good idea to start out by visiting as many groups as you can as a guest.  Once you have found the group that makes sense for you, there is an "approval process" that you will have to get through to be accepted into the group. Once you're accepted into the group you will be required to share leads with other businesses each week and also make presentations periodically about your own business.  Again, this is a GREAT place to build your chops on speaking with other business owners and get your own messaging sorted out.  That said, after a while (as some have also mentioned in this thread) the amount of time and energy you put into BNI will outweigh the value you are able to get from it...so you will most likely graduate from the group after some time (a year or two most likely).  Bottom line, if you pick the right group and give it as much as you take from it, you will definitely make relationships within the group that will last for years (if not decades) beyond your direct involvement in that group. But perhaps more importantly...you should be much better at speaking in front of small groups and making your "elevator pitch" when you finally graduate from the group.  Hope that helps!

So some people who are struggling with this may want to ask themselves, WHY are my existing customers not referring more customers to me??? Think about it, when you find a great restaurant or service provider in town...don't you almost get excited to tell everyone about it?   This simple approach has been working for Mosaic for 20 years...hope it  helps you as well.  :)
