A listener to the ministry’s online-Bible study called on day asking for prayer after the loss of his son. His son had been stationed over in Sri Lanka. Six months before his death, they had purchased him a new Honda 1000 CR motorcycle. He wanted to know if I would like to have that motorcycle as a donation to our ministry. What started as a donation quickly morphed into a full-Nigerian scam. This scam hit me in 2014 and lasted till 2016. The scam compromised four banks and led to two additional internet based (web design) scams. I lost $72,000 to these multiple Nigerian scams. Thus, the man who had originally offered the donation also promised to pay me back.  May 2016, he contacted me telling me that he was sorry for all the stress and losses I had incurred. He was going to make it good. He told me he was putting $30,000 into Last Harvest’s bank and if it cleared, then it would be paying me the balance the next day. For a brief moment, I thought I was actually getting my money back. I called the bank and she verified that a transfer was coming to my account for $30,000.00. The next morning I went to the doctor downtown Dallas, TX and while waiting for a train to arrive, decided to grab a piece of Pizza from the little shop next to the train station. To my shock and dismay, my card was declined. In fact, two other cards were declined. In total shock, I returned to the bank ATM to check my balances. The ministry account and savings account, the business account and savings account, my wife’s social security account, my social security account, and my son’s social security account were empty: ZERO BALANCE!   I was completely bankrupt! HELL WAS ABOUT TO UNLEASH AN ALL OUT ATTEMPT TO KILL ME I called the bank the next morning only to learn that the transfer had not come from Hawaii, where I thought it had originated, it came from Bonham, TX. BONHAM, TX? I DIDN’T KNOW ANYONE THERE I was confused. I have never been to Bonham. I know no one in Bonham. A thousand questions were rushing through my head. I was trying to contact the man who said he was putting money in my account and almost instantly he disappeared. That same afternoon, I got a phone call from the Chief of Police in Bonham, TX. He had a warrant for my arrest for theft of $30,000.   I told him about the scam and how this man had sent me the money. But, it had landed in my account, therefore I was on the hook. The day was a Friday, May 13, 2016. This was Isaiah’s sixteenth birthday. I took him to school and told him I might not be home for who knows how long. My wife, daughter and I drove to Bonham, TX with a 7-page outline of the Nigerian Scam showing how much I had lost and how this was to be a payback of the fees lost. The officer handcuffed me, finger-printed me, told me to take off my shoes and belt and put me in jail. Later that night, I was then taken in front of the Magistrate, who handed me a formal looking paper saying that I admit to the theft of over $30,000 - $150,000 wire fraud and use of the stolen property. (a 3rd Degree Felony minimum 10-year penalty with a $70,000 bond) IN PRISON! I was moved to the South Annex into Bunk 6  in the "B" tank room. There were 5 metal bunk beds, a tv on the wall, a metal meal table, a stall with a shower curtain for showers and a shower curtain that surrounded the toilet/sink. I was among guys that had done an armed robbery of a casino in Shreveport, LA, another who had skipped child support payments, and manslaughter case, and several on drug use. I got up early every morning while these others were still asleep till noon. I studied my Bible and wrote notes about the things I saw in these men and others. What began to pour through me were to become the one-minute devotionals I call “MY WORD OF HOPE FOR YOU.” The men one by one asked what I was reading. When I told them, they started having questions about God. After a few weeks, eight (8) of the men were sitting at the table with me listening to the Bible Study. I thought some of them were beginning to think seriously about what they were learning. Every morning, I would walk the cell 1000 steps and do my squats and back arm pushups and then as I walked, I would pray for each inmate. All was going fairly well with few arguments or disagreements with any of the guys. Two guys, in particular, who were stewards that worked with the food and cleaning crews. They were not happy that I was talking the Bible with all the other guys. One kept a stash of Marijuana in his bunk. One night, they were watching a television show about Marijuana and the new move to legalize it. All of them were talking about wanting to get high when they got out.   I did the wrong thing in jail, I told the guys that I wish they would reconsider using drugs because it is what put you in here and what will keep you in here. Immediately one of the men threatened to beat me to death, to beat the BeJesus out of me. He was loud and angry.   Thankfully, a guard came and took most of the men to the recreation hall. This gave my friend, a man who too, was in jail for something he had not done. He talked to the nurse manager and had her call me to the office. She agreed to put me in a single cell for my protection. Of course, this is what they call solitaire. The room is 10 x 5 with bare walls, no windows, a locked opening for food, a bare metal sink/toilet, and a single bunk. In this room, I felt safe from the outside guys but it didn’t take long for the demons to show up. Death threats began after an alleged lieutenant learned what I had said. Turns out, he was the alleged drug dealer for the inmates serviced through his stewards. He got mad that I had told these guys not to use drugs. This began a six-week-long vendetta against Ken Freeman. When you think it was bad in that prison having everyone against you is even worse. While I was locked up in the single cell, here’s what the Lieutenant did against me: A No Food order was placed on my door. The cafeteria was not to serve me a plate. Only a piece of bread and water. Thankfully, the cafeteria staff knew me as a good guy, a happy guy, a polite man. They also knew the law that said you can’t starve a prisoner. So, against the order of the Lieutenant, I was fed every meal three times a day. I never missed a meal. Three female prisoners were promised early release if they would give a testimonial on video stating that I had raped each one of them in prison. Now, he called me a thief and a rapist. The steward that did not want to be in the Bible Studies, filed an affidavit that I was the drug pusher, the man behind all the drugs inside the prison. I was pinned as the pusher who provided Marijuana, Cocaine, and Heroin in prison. He claimed by simply tearing a page out of my binder and throwing it in the toilet (my only trash can) I was charged with tampering with evidence. When I overheard a discussion of how I was to be killed, I reported it to the nurse and asked her to call the local sheriff. He showed him the videos and told him that he had heard me say he wanted to kill him so that sheriff said, then send him to my jail and I will put him there for life. So now, I was referred to as a murderer. Allegedly, he said he had a video of me exposing myself to the nurse and masturbating in front of her. Now, I was referred to as a pervert. Other charges were mounting for this and that. A total of 17 malicious charges were assigned to me in barely six weeks. Had those charges been filed, it would have resulted in a 110-year life sentence! He put 50 different men and women in solitaire and then charged them with a new $200 fine and 2 years added to their sentence because I had brought up the fact someone was using Marijuana in my cell. Now, he gave them a complaint form naming Ken Freeman as the focus of the complaint form. MAN HAD PLANS FOR ME TO BE IN JAIL FOR LIFE BUT GOD HAD OTHER PLANS! While in my single cell, my prayer was 2 Samuel 22:1-4 2 And he said, The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; 3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence. What happened next was amazing. A man in another cell asked over the vent where I heard that verse. I told him It was 2 Samuel. He asked if it was in the Bible. Just like being on the radio, if a person calls and asks a question, you can bet that there are many listening that would have asked that same question. The next morning, the guard stopped by and asked me what I was doing in my cell last night. I told him I was singing to the LORD. He then said: “All I know is I have orders to deliver 100 Bibles throughout the jail!” I fully believe it was the reason I was placed in jail. To bring glory to my LORD and touch men throughout the jail. Paul & Silas sang praise and the prison door opened. I sang praise and the doors opened for me! I was released by the judge, one day before I was scheduled to be shipped to another jail, to be put in solitaire, for life with a no-food (bread and water only) order (to be starved to death in prison) GOD IS A PRISON-SHAKING SAVIOR! Yes, God opened my prison-doors, the judge released me on a bond. The grand jury met months later and NO BILLED me. Thus, no indictment was ever filed! There was no evidence! All charges were dropped! No charges were ever filed! All court costs/reimbursing the stolen money was dropped. I am free and free indeed! When God released me the day before I was to be sent up the river, I tasted freedom for the first time in 110 days instead of 110 years! I can’t tell you what a joy that was! I am free as the Bible says FREE INDEED! The song “If you need freedom, He’s a prison-shaking savior” is my personal theme-song. MY WORD OF HOPE was written in that solitary room. Today, daily devotionals have been written and recorded. Over 258 radio stations have downloaded our audio files to date. Over 5,000 have viewed our devotionals birthed in my tiny singular cell.
