I always try to convince the client that I am an important part of the equation and the discounted price is just that...discounted design. It is a hard balance. The second quality is probably having your partner be a bit smarter than you in a parallel skill so that you compliment each other. I always want to be around smarter people than I...maybe I can learn something and broaden my horizons! You do not want to choose a partner that you have to take on a "learning curve" and you must determine what they are bringing to the table: money, contacts, experience? And of course, you need to check references and hire an experienced lawyer that will be fair but PROTECT your vision and business.
