About Us

We are Indiana's Largest Locally Owned & Independent Used & New Bookstore offering a large & wide selection of Books, DVD's, CD's, Blank Books/Journals, Calendars, Audio Books on Cd, Comics/Graphic Novels, Used Magazines and other book related items that change daily as we get new items in.

How We Got Started

The Founding Owner has a significant background in books & Publishing specifically going back 36 years and was a significant member of the Management Team of a home grown company (Que Corporation) that became one of the world's premier Computer Book
Publisher while being sold to Macmillan Publishing. Through this 7 year career path, our founder was able to learn, think and dream about both sides of the book business, retail bookselling & the the backbones of publishing.

In the fall of 2008, the founder opened Books on Sale at Southern Plaza directly across from the Showplace 17/Imax Movie Theater Complex. Books on Sale is the second largest Independently & Locally Owned Used/New Bookstore at over 6,700 square feet. Books on Sale is still operating today and serving customers seeking knowledge and entertainment in a heavily chaired but somewhat tighter environment adding new items to their vast and varied selection everyday.

Most of my comments are related to my manufacturing company in metals where raw material is in short supply at high prices and customers not wanting to pay more. The SBA has been rejecting and holding up our round 2 PPP app which will allow us to rid and replace our demon customer. SBA or... The SBA has been rejecting and holding up our round 2 PPP app which will allow us to rid and replace our demon customer. SBA or their feckless contractors appear to be playing God but they are hesitant to tell us why or perhaps the proper church to join since they are clearly not being above board, perhaps they are discriminating against us!!!!

If you need service and direction, we will be glad to provide it, if you would like to browse or sit around and enjoy the contents of the store, read a few chapters, that is fine with us. In fact, if you would like to come by and sit down, have a coffee or water and read a chapter or two every day or so, that works for us as well!

Typically, we have enjoyed significant success with direct mail postcards. In addition, we have been bringing in customers with Constant Contact on a weekly basis. Weekly ad's in the Southside Voice have proven to be very fruitful. We are looking forward to being much more active on Alignable... (more) Typically, we have enjoyed significant success with direct mail postcards. In addition, we have been bringing in customers with Constant Contact on a weekly basis. Weekly ad's in the Southside Voice have proven to be very fruitful. We are looking forward to being much more active on Alignable (and in fact just signed up for Premium service today) by allowing some of our best display space in Red Dog Books (and Books on Sale) for Alignable members to bring in business cards and promotional brochures to be placed upon recently installed slatwall displays. These displays are "front and center" and very noticable on the way from the front door to the register and back again. We are also interested in Alignable members signing up to come in on perhaps on weekends or evenings to put on small seminars on their profession, trade or craft. In fact, we are kicking off by having a local realtor come in do a seminar on Saturday July 27th at Books on Sale @ Southern Plaza. At Red Dog Books, we have set up several tables and chairs in anticipation of folks such as Realtors, Mortgage Brokers, Retail & Commercial Bankers, Insurance Agents, Artists, CraftsPeople, Local Authors, etc. in an effort for the vast array of knowledge of our local community to be shared with our bookstore audience. All we ask for providing the above opportunity is to mention us when you get a chance and participate. One additional promotional event we are toying with is developing a Saturday morning children's reading storytime/reading for a half hour or so. What we are thinking is that an ideal situation is for local business members of our community might be interested in participating by doing the readings. While you will find this to be a very creative endeavor and very enjoyable entertainment for the kids, it will also provide the reader and opportunity to spend time and converse with parents after the reading in a very comfortable and relaxed environment.
