Profit doesn't keep the lights on. Cash does.

Plenty of profitable businesses have gone under because profit on paper and money in the account are not the same thing.

You can book a great month and still miss payroll — the sale is "made," but the cash arrives in sixty days, and your bills are due now. Profit is an opinion. Cash is a fact. Owners who only watch the profit line get blindsided by the gap between earning money and actually having it.

Every month you track profit, but not cash flow, is a month you're flying blind to the thing that actually kills businesses.

Do you know, right now, how many months of cash you have?

P.S. Revenue is vanity.

Profit is sanity.

Cash is survival.

Strip the title away, and a leader's real job is simple: allocate three things well.

Capital, people, and attention; where they go decides everything.

The rest is a tactician's job you haven't delegated yet.

Owners stay buried in the doing and call it leadership.

But the doing can be hired.

The deciding what to fund, who to trust, where to point your focus cannot.

Spend your days on those three and the business compounds.

Spend them on tasks, and you've taken the lowest-leverage seat you have.

Every day spent on work you could delegate is a day you skipped the one job only you can do.

So are you allocating, or are you just busy?

P.S. The work can be delegated.

The decisions about where it all goes can't.

That's the job.
