For many jobs (sales in particular) you need an individual that is self motivated, not necessarily a "team player" and success driven. Without the personal drive for success, you have a clock puncher, which is not bad, just know up front what kind of person you are hiring and the environment they will be working in, to get a better match. This will increase the productivity and longevity of your hires. Find people a "happy place" to work, and they will work harder and deliver - put a person in a place they are not comfortable in, and you will see them leave as soon as they have a more satisfying work environment option.
