About Us

Moss Rock Solutions, formerly Scott Howard Consulting, designs software for a wide variety of organizations using FileMaker Pro and its cross-platform family of products including iPhone and iPad integration with FileMaker Go. We are a Platinum Claris Partner and have certified FileMaker developers, Oracle APEX developers, and full-stack web developers on staff.

We also provide consulting services for FileMaker developers and organizations with existing solutions. Scott Howard, owner and lead developer, has been developing FileMaker solutions on both Mac and Windows since 1992. We are based in Birmingham, Alabama, but serve clients all around the US. Among the solutions we have designed:

Case management for a large district attorney’s office. Handles screening and intakes, Grand Jury, District and Circuit Courts, indictments, plea agreements, restitution recovery, worthless checks, records management, victim services, and much more. Over ten DA offices manage their cases with our software

Case management for a state ethics commission and larger law firms.

Advanced mapping in FileMaker and the web using ArcGIS and Hear Maps APIs.

Print production and job management: job creation and tracking through entire process, packaging, customer relation management, shipment tracking, costing, etc. Integrates with corporate purchasing systems and several vendor systems.

Eye bank management and reporting: donor referrals and screening; tissue evaluation, placement, and tracking; quality control, invoicing, EBAA statistics, management reporting, etc.

Industrial equipment sales, engineering, costing, and service, including iPad and iPhone field service apps.

Event management with web registration and back-end and on-site event management.

How We Got Started

Scott started developing custom software to track his own sales and efficiently generate estimates as a computer and network salesman. He then worked for the Alabama Eye Bank for 11 years during which he developed two versions of their advanced eye bank management solution. Little by little he brought on new clients and in 2007 went full-time as a custom software developer.

So here are three things that I have learned that have helped me in so many ways: Document. Document. Document. If something is not documented, it never happened. Keep receipts for every business expense; You will need them for tax reporting, warranties, returns, billing, budgeting, etc. Document promises made by and to customers, vendors, employees and colleagues. Document decisions made. Document work you've done. Thankfully, most documents can be stored digitally, but however you store your documents, keep them organized. If you can't find a document when you need it, it's useless to you. Owning your own business can be a rewarding and profitable experience. I wish you all God's best!
