Miles For Migraine

About Us

Miles for Migraine is a nonprofit organization. Our mission is improving the lives of migraine patients and their families, raising public awareness about headache disorders, and helping find a cure for migraines. We have a 2K and 5K Walk and Run to raise money for migraine research, which has expanded to 18 cities this year. We have an Education Day, which has expanded to 5 cities this year. We also host youth camps for kids and teens impacted by migraine or other headache disorders. 36 million people in the US have migraine. It affects both men (6%) and women (18%). It is the 2nd leading cause of disabled days in men and women, more than stroke, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis.

How We Got Started

In September of 2007, the first ever advocacy visit was held and a group of medical doctors which were clinicians of headache and migraine disorders were told that their quest for additional grants and money from the National Institutes of Health, to continue research on migraine would remain flat and they would not see an increase in the foreseeable future. AHS member and migraine patient, Eileen Jones, RN, PHN, started the Miles for Migraine race in 2008 to raise money. This race was in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. They held a 5K and a 10K run and a 2 mile walk in the fall and had about 200 participants. Since then, we have grown to 18 cities and we continue to grow!
