Thanks everyone for your responses. Since it is my business to set up payment processing fees, it's very helpful to understand the mindset of business owners. I will continue to discuss this and advise business owners based on the different opinions shown here. It's really up to the business owner in the end as most States allow surcharging, and cash discounting is an easy solution, but it's risky when perception from consumers can impact sales and revenue. Some consumers are agreeable and some will turn away from frequenting places of business and obtaining services as a result. Others will start making it a habit of bringing cash.
