This work began before I knew what I was meant to do. When I was 11, my father passed away suddenly. The message I absorbed about grief was be sad, then get back to normal fast. I was left hollow and confused, pretending I was okay. I turned to drugs and alcohol at 15 to fill the emptiness his loss left me with.
I struggled with addiction until age 27, when I found a healer who gave my grief an expression no therapist had offered me. My battle with alcohol ended there.
When I was 33, I lost my daughter in a 90 mph head-on car collision. She died of the injuries she sustained in the impact. I knew before I left the hospital I would grieve her differently.
I used what I'd learned healing from my father's death to survive hers, because I knew grief avoided is just waiting for an expression. It comes out one way or another.
My work was born from that experience.
Now I help other moms find their way back to themselves after a loss no mother should endure.
