There are many misconceptions and incorrect assumptions about participating in therapy. People fear the idea of vulnerability and they worry about what others think, so it is important for therapists to create a safe space to process hurts and allow progress at the client’s pace. A great therapist can dispel the stigma of therapy and help a client feel that it’s okay to ask for help when problems become overwhelming. Sometimes an objective person can make a significant difference. A collaborative approach to therapy creates a therapeutic alliance between therapist and client which contributes to successful therapeutic outcomes.
