1K Nation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides mentorship and quality programming for boys and girls.
We're on a mission to train, equip and empower youth with the necessary tools to help change the course of their lives by further developing their spiritual, social, and emotional well-being.
1K Nation, Inc. was originally created to reach at-risk males in grades 5-7. I was on a mission to help them see past their current living environment and to introduce them to a bigger world. We met on Saturdays, had small group mentoring, character building activities, S.T.E.M. challenges, sports & fitness, experience trips, and yes, we also dined together - where we set S.M.A.R.T. goals for the upcoming week.
It was around April 2017 that testimonials went out about how the boys' behaviors had changed and created a buzz for others. Parents voiced their concerns that we need to start at a younger age. Other parents asked why we didn't offer this for girls. So, the summer of 2017, we made some slight changes to our curriculum and opened our doors to youth K-6th for our first ever summer camp.
I had planned to find employment elsewhere for the school year, but the parents and students encouraged me to create an after-school program. And as you can see, we are still going strong!
