Sometimes people are just afraid of the unknown.  Their only experience with photographers was doing school photos or something at Sears or WalMart Studios.  If this is the case for you, let me tell you as a photographer, my process is nothing like your past experience.  It's your headshot, it will look the way you want it to look.  No goofy poses, nothing uncomfortable (unless you're wanting goofy like mine).
