Setting out on the counseling journey can be a frightening prospect for some. Why would someone want to explore their life and their story or get back in touch again with their heart? Isn't that stuff history? Why stir up all that pain and disappointment? And what of the other questions that arise: Is change possible? Can I heal? Can I grow -- and if I do, what can I become? Can I get free of this struggle, of this pain, of this fear? Can I find life again?
Is counseling right for me?
It is the right question to ask. Allow me to address briefly some of the struggles you may be facing and how counseling may offer the help you need to reach what you're after.
Life Can Be Hard
Let's face it. Life can be hard at times. There are struggles we all face, and sometimes they simply get the best of us. Our hearts become burdened with anxieties and worries, frustrations and fears. Life doesn't seem to go the way we had hoped it would. We get angry, sometimes to the point of rage. Or depressed, not wanting to face the overwhelming struggles ahead.
We all get wounded in the battles of life -- some of us in tragically dramatic ways, and others of us bleed through the piercings of a hundred small injuries. We've all heard the expression that "time heals all wounds," but does it? Really? Or does time simply bury them, band-aid them so we don't have to think too much about them. Somehow, though, they always seem to come back up to torment us, and usually in the most inconvenient ways.
Your Struggle
Maybe it's an addiction you can't seem to get rid of. Maybe it's that haunting feeling of inadequacy or loneliness. It may be anxiety or depression, gender identity issues, or past trauma. A relationship you value may have become difficult -- perhaps it is the civil war in your marriage. Or, you may be just setting out on the marital journey and desire to set out in the right direction and want the guidance counseling can offer your relationship. It may simply be a disconnection with your heart, with meaning in life, and with your relationship with God and others important to you.
Perhaps you've sought help for these things before, but they still remain. Or, you may be unsure how to get the help you need. Let me offer you the chance to talk through these problems, to work through the tangled and knotted strands. You need a place to tell your story and someone to journey alongside you for a time to help discover the reasons for the struggles and the way through them. You need the healing, trusting relationship that I can offer.
Courage to Live
It is a courageous thing to ask for help, and doing so is the first step toward restoration of your heart, your relationships, your life. Let me help you do more than simply cope with your problems; let me help you get to the core of the struggles and back on the road to living your life again. Let me help you get your life back - the life in your own heart, the life in your marriage, the life in your family.
