I did not hire a business consultant. I sought out the advice of architects who had a history of doing creative work and sustained their practices over a long period of time. My belief was that a business consultant would be able to give me general business advice, but people who succeeded in my specific business would be able to give me specifics directly related to what I wanted to do.
Now, after 17 years and still going strong, I realize the value of those early pearls of wisdom.
Maintaining relationships with previous clients is a cornerstone of my marketing strategy. They serve as references for potential clients and often refer me for new work to their friends, families, etc.
