It is not correct to think you can restore a couple of files and everything will be back to normal. Ransomware is like putting sugar in your gas tank.
It is important to have Plan A, Plan B, Plan C, Plan D, Plan E...
Once you have been attacked by ransomware you know that you have to install EVERYTHING again because it encrypts every unused file on the device, except for if you have a device backup and a file backup. Device backup to get everything working again and file backup to get back the latest files you have been using.
Plan A: Backblaze (to get all your actual files again), Plan B: Image Backup (to get all the programs and os working again) and Plan C: OneDrive with Subscription, Plan D: Server/Cloud Backup from Acronis AND Image Backup, Plan E: Bitdefender Total Security
How does Microsoft OneDrive handle Ransomware, meaning all my documents are encrypted and I cannot use them any more.
The answer is two fold: 1. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription you can restore files and folders within the last 30 days. 2. If you do not have a Microsoft 365 subscription you can restore file by file individually from the OneDrive recycling bin or restore a previous version of the file. 3. For SharePoint or Microsoft Teams you can restore a document library.
ComputerHelpSOS uses Backblaze - https://www.backblaze.com/clou... for piece of mind (Plan B), because it backs up every changed file instantly. This means I can restore folders or files from a certain date and time. All that "set it and forget it" for $7 per month. ComputerHelpSOS also uses the disk image backup of Windows to create a disk image of the device every three months. For Server or the Cloud, we use Acronis Backup and also make images of the servers / cloud space / vps (Virtual Private Space).
