"Ed Habetz is superb. I have worked with him for 14 years on a wide variety of projects. Ed has a long history of providing excellent work at a very reasonable price. He is always professional in his conversations and gives of his time to be sure that the Client is satisfied with the finished product. Ed is one of the select few contractors that holds true to an excellent product because his name is associated with it. Because of his passion for "getting it right", many of our clients look forward to working with him. Because they know it will be "right" when the job is done."

Jenny, Great post!! Thanks so much for giving your story and the advice. Our businesses are very different, but the approach to marketing is relatively similar. Also, the caveat from Steve about our PTA is spot on. We are working to expand our base clientele into medical office and facility design and working on ways to accomplish this now. I will be spending time, now daily, to work on our online profile here and on the other profiles to get our name out. Thanks again!

I agree with David. Our greatest perk is flexibility. We are very open with our time (no time clock). Family is first: people cannot concentrate on work if they are worried about family matters. So we are very strong in giving time when needed. We also do our best to let everyone out by 12:00 on...

I agree with David. Our greatest perk is flexibility. We are very open with our time (no time clock). Family is first: people cannot concentrate on work if they are worried about family matters. So we are very strong in giving time when needed. We also do our best to let everyone out by 12:00 on Friday. We do not "demand" overtime; we only ask that production be at it's greatest so as to prevent the need. It works! South Louisiana is a different market than NY, but people are the same everywhere: treat them well and they will be loyal.

I would first state that an architect should first review the work proposed. If a professional of record is not needed, he should say as much. At best, the architect should recommend individuals within the permit office to assist the Owner during the process. If the work is extensive, then the Owner should solicit a professional of record to work on his behalf and communicate with AHJ and the contractor. It will give a much greater return on investment to the Owner than trying to navigate through the bureaucracy alone

Sunil,
Thank you for the article. You articulated in a concise manner what I and my office-mates have been discussing now for several weeks/months: How do we position ourselves as the 'go-to' person for ...?" Every discussion always comes back around to educating ourselves so we can inform the general public of this expertise. We are a small architecture firm, but have years of expertise in multiple areas. Getting the word to those that can use this expertise is where our focus shall turn.
Again, thank you for the article.
