If you wish to offer a niche accounting business such as divorce work, a tax specialty, or accounting and auditing, be the best, and surround yourself with competent lawyers and other accountants that will feed you work.
QB online is leased software (you don't own it) and has limited functionality and reporting (QB is trying to make it better). Daily Backups are included. QB desktop is purchased (you own it) for a fairly minimal fee and has comprehensive reporting and extensive functionality. You can use...

QB online is leased software (you don't own it) and has limited functionality and reporting (QB is trying to make it better). Daily Backups are included. QB desktop is purchased (you own it) for a fairly minimal fee and has comprehensive reporting and extensive functionality. You can use remote desktop or team viewer (or other remote software) to remote into your client's desktop QB. Freshbooks has limited reporting. Major plus: for QB desktop, there are many add on software products from other providers (such as inventory, A/R, or POS) that can plug in and enhance that function and reporting.
