Supervisory imposed stress, Time stressors, Physical plant stressors, and self imposed stress are but a few of work-related stress issues that are in the work place.  Assisting our associates in dealing with these stressors occurs in many different  strategies and mechanisms. By engaging in an employee assisted program (EAP) that is not monitored by  management is a key element in assisting associates to assure autonomy and confidentiality. EAP policy sets program qualifications, participation and funding of the program.   Experience tells us that associates identify acute stress issues with chronic environmental, behavioral, or mechanical issues.  Therefore, having available immediate EAP assistance will address acute displayed stress systems.  We also know that the EAP program can and will refer a number of associates to formal counseling or training to address an identified chronic stress issue. Training supervisors on cultural issues, associate behaviors, communication of expectations and proper follow up with the associate helps minimize everyday stressors.  Stress in the workplace is not always a bad thing.  Stress is a driver for achieving performance and self worth.  However, it should be a companies mission to keep stress manageable in the workplace to allow associates to achieve all that they are capable of achieving each day.
