About Us

New as a business, long standing as a service provider especially for memorials. There's a trick with working to help people through moments of profound grief: 1) if I'm doing my job well a client doesn't think about me at all (feedback and referrals understandably aren't at the forefront of their minds) 2) the work is confidential. I keep getting prompts to ask contacts for referrals--and that's not appropriate for most of the circumstances I work within.

I love light. I like the scrunchy faces friends make when they tell each other jokes when no one is supposed to be talking...and the really deep colour of jam up against the edge of the glass jar when you first pop the lid. If I could take pictures of every potential fantastic capture I would but that can be obtrusive and invade privacy (not my style).

So I studied and got EQF qualifications for Photoshop and Lightroom. I went on and studied with other professionals adding to my skill sets. Given the chance I'm oddly good with rotoscoping: cutting something out of one photo and placing it seamlessly into another. It takes more time but the results and reactions are always worth the effort.

How We Got Started

I was in and out of art school as a teen. Once I was old enough to pay for (and take care of) a serious camera and the multitude of lenses that's where my attention stuck. As digital technology has advanced mixing media for striking results is easily accessible if you know the programs: a black and white portrait is missing something? I drop the gloss and make it matte. Still not quite right? I might blend it with a sheet of textured sterling or stainless, possibly a plank of birch.

Unfortunately, as others with a serious pre-existing condition may be aware, I am covered by no insurance. It's good because I don't get hassled by annoying calls at dinner, it's bad because I have No safety net. It's one of the reasons I built my own business, created my own job...still no safety net though. When I have an employee? I'll still be small so we'll talk about what they need, immediate cost + long term employee security and come up with an appropriate fit. COVID concerns? I have my plan listed on my site, really just distancing and 'don't rush'. In regards to an employee: unlikely I will have one within that time alottment. COVID or not other than ICBC I am non insurable, coronavirus does not affect that. Unfortunately.

Rebuilding images that are broken or were taken at odd angles so they now appear as standard portrait is a client favourite. I also do a lot of memorial slide shows--having those perfectly keyed in time to music, correcting evidence of time in hospital if that's what a client/family wishes.
