You need to discover who your clients are and then go when you can be in front of those clients. The other thing you should consider is how the different meetings (i.e., mornings, lunch time or afternoons) fits in your work schedule and affects y our work the least. However, to me, the most important is getting in front of the right people. Good Luck all....

(more) To me it is about having a business relationship filled with trust and mutual respect that makes my job enjoyable. This does not always equate with "liking" vendors however. Price is almost always an important component in the equation, but other factors can also be important. The importance must be based on your specifics. For instance, if you can get the same parts anywhere, price may be the most important factor. However, if making sure you get the supplies, equipment or products on time affects you business, this must also be included in your analysis. For instance, if you run into a supply problem that affects your customers and makes it hard for you to do get your work done, the cheapest price will not help you. If you have a good relationship, this can --many times -- help you avoid or lessen your problems and help save your relationships with your clients and customers. This is my philosophy.

You have to make sure all work gets done, you have to make sure all services you do are high quality, you have to make sure the bills go out on time and that you get paid for your services, and you have to develop and maintain policies and procedures to insure your company continues to produce a high-quality product or services consistently. This is not easy. However, I love the challenge and I get better at this every day.

However, I am moving more towards bigger businesses because small businesses and start-ups do not seam to come to the table with much money. Therefore, they do not want to pay for legal services and are looking for the cheapest way to get things done. This is usually a bad idea for small businesses because they do not start out knowing what they should and should not do. They then will only come to an attorney after they have gotten into a lot of trouble. You have to find your niche and go from there.

Unfortunately, most people do not know what part of the form needs to be changed for their specific situation. I had a client who used a form he got from the internet and it was great until he had a dispute with his business partner. Then, they found out that the form was not what they thought it was. Yes, it is more expensive to have an attorney prepare a contract or operating agreement. However, the better the agreement and the better the parties understand what they are entering into, the more likely they will avoid problems.

I do not think the state bar rules allow this type of referral services. the bar does not allow it because it is sharing legal fees with a non-attorney. However, I have found that those with integrity, who will work hard without oversight, are rare commodity in the work force today, as most people want to do the bare minimum and get paid as much as everyone else. Therefore, the focus on any business should be coming up with ways to motivate those who work for you, so that they want to work hard for their employer. As an attorney, I spend my life working to solve other people's problems or prevent other people from having problems. Looking at my work from that perspective, I think I would fall within the category of working harder for someone else than I do for myself.
