YOU made a mistake hiring someone to do one thing and being disappointed he isn’t doing something he wasn’t hired to do.
Richard Melancon's answer is the best on this thread. What his and very few of the others have in common is...talk to your landlord. Be upfront. If you have applied for or are applying for a PPP loan, let them know. I think most will be willing to work with you. Waiting for you get be able...

Waiting for you get be able to pay is always better than waiting for a building to be rented.
Don't like it. If you know what the letters are SUPPOSED to be, you can kind of make it out. Logo should have some connection to what you do. Back to the drawing board. Ask some of the vets you work for THEIR advice. I think they would be honored.

One of the standards to meet is that it is common practice in your industry to treat them as contract labor. Since you have been told by "industry colleagues" that you should switch, you apparently don't meet this standard.

One of the standards to meet is that it is common practice in your industry to treat them as contract labor. Since you have been told by "industry colleagues" that you should switch, you apparently don't meet this standard.
What will happens goes something like this: You tell one of them that you no longer need their services. A buddy of that person tells them they should go an file for unemployment. They do, and the state unemployment office finds no record of you paying unemployment on that person (or any of the contract labor). They want the unemployment taxes, plus penalties and interest. Then the state sends this information to the IRS, who then may very well decide they want some of you money as well for payroll taxes and penalties and interest.
As stated previously by others, the contract labor approach can save you some money now. It just may cost you a lot more in the future.
