The City of Lethbridge Animal Shelter is a city-funded facility and is operated by SPD Animal Services. We currently house any stray, or found animal located within the City of Lethbridge, or Lethbridge County, and do our best to return an animal to its owner, or adopt an animal to a great new family. If you are thinking of adopting a new pet and have any questions or concerns, please contact the shelter through the information listed below.
Animal Care & Control Peace Officers also enforce the Dog Bylaw for the City of Lethbridge and will be pleased to hear of any concerns. Our mission is to enforce the municipal bylaw #5235 consistently and effectively. Dog licenses can be purchased at the shelter or at City hall. For more information and to obtain a copy of the dog bylaw, please visit the City of Lethbridge website.
Concerns for animal welfare, including neglect, and abuse, are handled by the Alberta SPCA; to make a complaint call 1-800-455-9003.
*Unfortunately there are rare occasions when it is necessary to euthanize an animal. This only occurs after all avenues have been explored. Cases, when this is necessary, are if an animal is sick or injured beyond veterinary help or proves to be unadoptable due to excessive aggressive behavior, either towards people or other animals. Euthanasia is carried out upon consultation with and by a qualified veterinarian and the decision is never taken lightly.
