As A CPA I advise clients starting new businesses. Most new businesses fail due to being under-capitalized.
How do you know how much capital you will need to star your business? 1. Analyze your monthly business cycle & your cash flow. 2. Start up costs, security deposits (rent, utilities, printing/stationary, equipment, computers, etc) 3. As the business owner what are your personal monthly cash flow needs?
Add together all of the above, multiply by 6 months, that is the amount you should have to start your business. Then look at your savings & any other source of borrowings you might have.
I have successfully advised & assisted new clients with starting a new business using this approach. I might add that this approach can also be use if buying a business.

Get a DBA certificate from the county. If you have a Federal ID # show them that. I am a CPA IN Babylon, NY that works with DBA/self employed individuals
