I ocassionally cold call on businesses to conduct surveys. It amazes me how much information some employees are willing to give out.

Hi Ron, can you share what type of survey/ questions? I'm surprised people are respective since they are so quick to say NO thank you and hang up lol

Hi Jezebel I hope you're having an amazing day. I'm sure that they would hang up on me as well if I was calling them. I talk to them in person at their business. I'm doing the survey in conjunction with The Small Business Development Center at Utah Valley University so that might help with the good reception. I used to cold call businesses while selling business security systems and the reception was not very good. I'm also a Realtor and I used to knock doors randomly in several cities near me so I'm used to talking to people about things that they are not actively looking to buy. On the Real Estate I had to knock on almost 500 doors to get a sale the first year so it really depends on what you're trying to do. The survey is just gathering information and I don't care whether they want to talk more or not. It's a numbers game and I don't want to try to sell someone on something they don't want. I do leave my card so they can contact me if they have interest later on. So far I've only found 2 businesses that wouldn't take a few minutes to talk. Here are the questions I'm asking. 1. On a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the most difficult, how hard is it to find and keep good employees? 2. Do you offer Employee Benefits as a way to recruit and/or retain employees from your industry? If no go to question 4 3. Do you have a Voluntary Benefits Package for your employees? 4. Did you know that you can offer a Voluntary Benefit to all employees and select which employees you want to pay for? 5. If you had a better benefits package do you feel that it would help with recruiting and/or employee retention? 6. Are you interested in learning more about Voluntary Benefits? I ask those questions if I'm talking with the Owner, Manager, or HR Director. If they aren't available I switch to an employee questionnaire and ask the following questions. I make sure I get their permission before I ask these questions because they ask about what their employer provides for them. 1. Does your employer offer Employee Benefits? 2. On a scale of 1 - 5 with 5 being very important, how important are Employee Benefits to you? 3. Have you heard of Living Benefits? 4. Have you heard of Voluntary Benefits? 5. Would you like to learn more about these benefits and how to get them? 6. Can we schedule a time to show you how these benefits work? Most employers and employees are interested and want to know more until I ask to set up a time to talk more. I lose about 90% of them at that point, but I look at it as numbers game and if they're uncomfortable I don't push it. I only want to talk to those that are really interested. I don't want to waste my time talking to those that are just being polite. I only want to talk to those that see value in what I provide and truly want more information about it. I'm just getting started but I've had 2 businesses that want me to talk to their employees about what I offer. Not too bad for talking to 30 companies and spending about 4 hours with the possibility of making over $10,000 if 25% of the employees I talk to decide to buy. There's still a lot of follow-up to do, but I see real potential for it being very profitable. I also hooked up my friend that does Employee Benefits and he's talking with them and should make some good money from it as well. I love it when I'm able to collaborate with other people and it's a win, win situation and the clients win as well. This is much better results than the 1 out of 100 selling security systems to businesses or the 1 out of over 500 knocking doors as a Realtor. If you want more information on what I'm doing please connect with me and we can set up a time to talk more.
