Since 1993, Compassion Works for All has evolved from the prison counseling efforts of Anna Cox, ACSW. Her years of one-on-one inmate visits and meditation/counseling groups led to Dharma Friends, a spiritually supportive newsletter mailed to prisoners around the country.

In 2005, Compassion Works for All, Inc., 501(c)(3) became active with many dedicated volunteers and individual donors. Now, thanks to all our supporters, we are growing exponentially.

We join with others who are working toward the same goals and together we weave the net, supporting those in the many aspects of the criminal justice system and those under-served in our society. We focus on identifying and alleviating the causes of violence and crime, supporting inmates and their families, and teaching compassion to all in our one world.

Compassion Works for All PROGRAMS:

Dharma Friends Newsletter is sent to over 3,600 inmates in all fifty states. It is also emailed to over 700 "free world" individuals.

Prison chaplaincy outreach offers free support materials to chaplains in every federal and state prison in the country.

Prisoner support services sends welcome packets, personal letters and books to prisoners in every state.

Free books for inmates include donated books and aids such as Mindful Money, a guide to personal finances, offered to prisoners preparing for life after release.

An inmate meditation group is held monthly at a maximum security prison in Arkansas. We also help prisons with holiday feasts and festivities. Dharma Friends newsletters are used as meditation and study guides for groups in prisons throughout the country.

Jeff's Kids are kids in trouble who exchange letters with prisoners. This closely supervised program benefits both the kids and the long-term inmates.

JustUsFriends.org offers spiritual support, psychological guidance, encouragement in social action, plus more than 150 popular meditation and self-help videos (also available at YouTube.com). All for FREE!!

Compassion Works are contemplative sessions on compassion that we offer twice monthly in the community.

We plant seeds of transformation in the criminal justice system with writings, teachings, lectures and videos. We are dedicated to the transformation of society's views on prisons.

We educate the public on the root causes of crime and violence - and how to heal them by developing materials offering thoughts on the causes of the journey to prison, highlighting healing interventions to encourage and vote for a transformation of the criminal justice system.

FUTURE PLANS: We are developing educational programs for those in prison and guidance to those who leave prison, including GED training and the REACH program to offer guidance for survival in the world.
