It is a tough situation these days finding and keeping quality employees for labor. I pay more than any competitor I know of and respect and treat my employees as if they were my partner. My outlook has always been without my employees I cannot make a living yet at the same time they cannot make...

It is a tough situation these days finding and keeping quality employees for labor. I pay more than any competitor I know of and respect and treat my employees as if they were my partner. My outlook has always been without my employees I cannot make a living yet at the same time they cannot make a living without me. That being said we have a very low amount of turnover but it is still very difficult to find quality people to do flooring .
I am always feeling the crunch yet somehow everything seems to work out. At this stage any new employee and/or employees I have are usually friends and/or family of my current employees. Sadly there is no guarantee that they will be as good as what I currently have but there are no options.
At the end of the day I find by thanking my guys daily as well as looking at the jobs we do and the quality work we do and my employees seeing my thankful attitude towards everything, it does give them a feeling of accomplishment along with a positive vibe .
Being thankful and thoughtful with true sincerity makes the tough physical labor a lot easier to handle.
When a client calls and tells me what the " project" is and in the same sentence tells me that it is easy but "needed" advice from a professional I always give them the best information I can. It is not worth my time to look at something that is usually a quick fix. If the client can fix...

It is not worth my time to look at something that is usually a quick fix. If the client can fix it;great! In the event the client can not and needs me to look at the poor job they have done I always remind them that they should have been honest with themselves as to what there capabilities are.At that point then we charge them.
Those that are threatened by competition are either driven by price or do not see the value that they have to offer there perspective clients. I do not worry what others are doing as I can only do the best that I can do. In respect to price, there is always someone cheaper etc..and I will not...

As for working with competition I have no problem with that as long as we are all making money.
Assuming the perspective client has asked / told you to call back, I keep in communication with them until they respond in any fashion. Persistence in most cases is appreciated these days. Due to everyone being busy doing nothing but staring at the phone i.e. Facebook, Instagram etc.. I have...

Due to everyone being busy doing nothing but staring at the phone i.e. Facebook, Instagram etc.. I have found that half of the people who have asked me to call or email have either missed the email or were not familiar with the phone number and opted not to answer. When I get through to the person, he or she is typically happy and apologetic that I stayed on top of things.
The BBB is a waste of time and money. They spend more time urging you to become a member than anything else. The internet and word of mouth are far more powerful then the BBB. The only time I hear the BBB being referenced is when someone over 70 years old has been taken advantage of and they feel...

Always let the other person talk about themselves and there business first before speaking. Be positive in your answers regardless of how negative and or off course he or she may be. DO NOT LOOK AT YOUR PHONE! Stay focused on the individual and see what there needs are . DO NOT TALK BUSINESS THE...

I refer other trades etc.. after I get to know them and more importantly see and or find out the work that they do.If someone refers me and I am 100% aware that there work is not the type work acceptable to my clients I will thank them but not refer them.All referrals are a reflection of yourself...
