Harvey Englander holds a unique position in Southern California’s public affairs and advocacy community. He is both a highly successful strategist for his clients and also an astute business leader who built public relations agencies and then sold them, first to a public company and then to the senior members of his second company. Harvey currently provides a superior level of personalized public affairs, message development and implementation, government relations and crisis communications counseling to a select group of clients
Harvey also maintains the position of Founding Partner of Englander Knabe & Allen (EKA) which he founded as The Englander Group in 2005 where he functions as a consultant after selling his interest in the firm in 2018. Harvey grew the company into the largest independent public relations agency and lobbying firm in Los Angeles only five years following its founding, according to the Los Angeles Business Journal. It was no surprise that he was included multiple times in their list of the 500 Most Influential People in Los Angeles County.
Harvey didn’t just change the game – he changed the story by developing a strategic approach methodology for his clients. This strategic approach to a client’s situation delivers results for his clients time and time again.
Harvey has created and successfully lead hundreds of public relations, political and public affairs campaigns. He is often the person called when traditional communications campaigns don’t reach their goals. He has been called upon to rescue numerous political campaigns and careers that appeared to be on the verge of defeat. Simply, Harvey is the person you always want in your corner.
Harvey has set a standard for success, delivering his clients the results they need. He has a clear understanding of the public and political landscape and how to effectively communicate his client’s story across it.
The value of giving back to the community is ingrained in his approach. Harvey serves on the UCLA Alumni Association Board of Directors and previously served on the LACC Alumni Association Board of Directors. He is a co-founder of the American Diabetes Association’s highly successful “Los Angeles Political Roast.” He is an active member of the West Coast Sports Medicine Foundation and his past appointments include the Bipartisan California Commission on Internet Political Practices and the Los Angeles County Junior Golf Commission. He is also a founder and former president of the Los Angeles Lobbyists & Public Affairs Association.
An LACC and UCLA graduate, Harvey served on George Washington University’s Council on American Politics and was a board member of the UCLA School of Public Policy.
Harvey splits his time between Century City and La Quinta. He is married and the father of four sons and grandfather to three boys and a girl. He is married to Donna Black who, before retiring, was a leading land use attorney.
Had there been a vote for “least likely to succeed” in high school, Harvey would have won that election. Instead of attending the local community college with many of his high school associates, he instead enrolled at Los Angeles City College where he started his life over again, not knowing anyone on campus. He was fortunate to take a Political Science I class from the late professor, Dr. Philip Schlesinger. This chance event turned his life around and he remained close to his beloved teacher until his death. Phil’s term project was to get involved in a political campaign and write the term paper about the experience.
