A solid educational program can be an excellent choice for addressing the gap between your current state and the goals you want to achieve. There are a few steps to do before just plugging the gap with a training class. First determine whether the issue is that they do not have the skills or tools (training solution) or whether they do not want to (motivation- compensation, environment, etc.). You can do that by asking the question, "Could they do this if their life depended on it?" Then determine the root cause for the gap using the "5 Why" process. Once you find the true culprit and it is something you can teach- create your solution.
