We get 90% of all business for networking locally. Our best resource is BNI - Business Network International - https://www.bni.com/. They have locations in nearly every large city and hold weekly networking meeting. You can visit or become a member. Becoming a member means you get to lock your business in where you will have no competition amongst the group. The purpose is to give referrals and help each other grow. My business has earned over $50,000 last year from this one source alone.
Other options are Chamber of Commerce, Meet-ups (least value in my opinion), events and good ol' word of mouth and advertising.

Dan I am a new BNI member, literally joined this week. I find it to be an excellent bang for the buck. The structure of only allowing one business per niche and giving recommendations to this exclusive group first is great. Education, relationships and referrals all in one.

Each business niche has its own methods, however their is one common thread when courting clients online - You must be where they are! Meaning, your customers (home buyers) are smart and want current accurate information, and they want it now. How do they get it?...

I just Googled "St Louis Realtor", I won't give you the results but if your not on page 1 then you don't exist on the inter-web. Competition is fierce and you've got to be willing to defend or even take your territory.
