"Sound Hauling & Junk Removal is a business that does exactly what they say they will. We had a larger project needing a lot of yard waste removed. Alex covered various options, pros and cons and more. I never felt hassled or pushed, it was all about sharing information. The haul went well and now we have a nice hedge row where invasive blackberries once were. I highly recommend them for most any hauling job that you have. "

The need for being present online will only increase in 2021. The pandemic will essentially be "over" in the summer with a new normal, but the acceleration of digital trends will only continue. Companies that invest in a strong online presence with ongoing content, advertising and responsive sites will reap the rewards. Indeed, those companies that kept the digital ball rolling will be 3 steps ahead of those who did not, similar to the last recession.
For a more specific trend, expect more emphasis to be placed on authenticity and bespoke content. Why are the social media firms providing generic, junk content going away? Because their content is meant to be fast and cheap...and is worthless to the business. Content should be niche targeted and reflect the business' philosophy and goals. That's still true if another company is writing and promoting it for you online.
Be authentic! Your content needs to reflect you. It can't be generic, it can't be general. Your content should hone in on you, your business, your target markets, your philosophy and your team. That's true if you're writing the content directly or having someone help you out.

Our pace of free consults has continued to be heavy. Working in digital marketing I have seen one recent change that I wanted to relay. In the earlier weeks there was a stampede for improved ads online, which worked out well since costs for campaigns went down. But now businesses are settling into more strategic thinking. We have had many more conversations focused on improving and redesigning websites not only for the short-term, but to reflect longer term business model and services changes.

We had 5 consults this past week with local and small businesses. Most of the conversation revolved around what they can do NOW to try and bring in revenue via online services. Most of their sites are not set up for that and depending on your product and service set that may not be possible. But trying to boost some online sales is just to try and get through this in many cases. There is only so long that things can remain closed, at least from the perspective of small businesses surviving. Providing more loans for those businesses to then have to pay back is not a solution that will work for most.

While business has declined some (from the clients who have had to close), we have remained incredibly busy. I work in digital marketing and requests for new and better websites or helping businesses add online services have increased. We've also been trying to help small businesses with free advice and thoughts on what they can do. We're not in that to make $$$, just trying to help when so many are in much tougher situations right now.

Excellent advice in here. We're offering consultations via Zoom. That's both a service, but also helping businesses to carry out much of your advice and switching services and offering to the online world.

Politely decline. I see no reason being rude if I can avoid it. Right now those types of calls are endemic. I would like to see legislation that curtail them.

"I'm too busy right now" is the adult version of the dog ate my homework. As in it's rarely a legitimate reason not to meet, consider or take action. We have met with everyone from the scrappiest startup to the mom and pop shop to the 15-minute mini-meeting with the high-powered CEO. They all...

We have met with everyone from the scrappiest startup to the mom and pop shop to the 15-minute mini-meeting with the high-powered CEO. They all had one thing in common: They made time. Everyone's busy. If it's actually important the person makes it fit into the schedule.

A common misconception we run into is that drag and drop site builders (that you can use over your lunch break) are a real replacement for professional website design. About half of our clients waste time and $$$ on the "easy to use" solutions before working with us. If you don't have an eye for design or your online goals in mind, those builders are not helpful at all.

How do most people find businesses nowadays? Is it the phone book? Is it meeting people? While there will be exceptions, the answer to much of the above will be online. That places a priority on having a strong online presence. Typically that involves having an effective website set up to convert and associated social media and other sites to funnel traffic to your site. We had one client who generated all of their business with word-of-mouth. It worked very well for him. But it worked even better after his site went live. He had new people he had never met, and more importantly, people he had met who wanted to vet him online. His refreshed LinkedIn profile and site impressed them to reach out again.
