We are lucky we don't need additional employees now as they are hard to find because they earn more on unemployment.

Pay them better. If you can't afford to pay a living wage then maybe your business is more suited to an owner/operator model. The unemployment pay is NOT that much money. I would not be surprised to find that it is near the poverty line.

I know several people who are making more on unemployment now than when they were employed. Every business I go into that relies on employees - and I mean every one - is understaffed, has had to reduce hours, quality and speed of service that they used to have. They all say they can't get people to work. The people are there - they are on unemployment. PPP is making welfare more lucrative than working. What Thomas is saying is on the spot and based in experience.

no they don't, stop with this trope, it's mean and incorrect. The extra $600/week are gone. $600 is 40 hours at a $15 minimum wage. The people who made more for a while earned less than $15/hour but for sure they will not be able to claim their second or third jobs or any IC work. And if you're making less than $15/hour you will be using that extra pandemic money on bills. And probably COBRA since much of health insurance in the US is linked to your job. Unemployment has always been a percentage of your weekly income before your unemployment claim. I can assure you I was making much more than $224/week but I'm also an IC and I had to choose which one to apply for. It doesn't matter what your political affiliation is, but please use correct information.
