How We Got Started

I served for almost 5 years as a Full-Charge Bookkeeper, Administrator and Tax Assistant at a CPA firm. Outside of the Firm since 2017, I have provided bookkeeping service, Texas sales tax filing, and payroll assistance to two family-owned service businesses. I am a partner/owner of a business providing repair service in the paint industry. When it became obvious that our business was poised for growth and more of my time & skills were needed, I left the firm. We also added another service line and Mountain Valley Bookkeeping (MVB) began. We are very excited about the opportunity to serve small to mid-sized business and to continue the excellent service that our company has always provided. Currently MVB is serving electrical contractors, roofing specialists, commercial repair & installers, construction contractors, real estate investors, residential HVAC, and manufacturing--Startups, established, tiny to millions in revenue.

(more) Good Morning!  My employment career was in accounting working under CPAs in industry or business as Staff Accountant and Bookkeeper.  My most recent work was with a CPA firm where I worked directly with many clients in cleaning up their books for tax prep and reporting to banks, borrowing, etc.  Several years ago, my husband and I started a business based around his service skills; I took care of the business setup and accounting, and even the taxes.  Others asked me to help with their books along the way.  So when the opportunity arose to be more involved in our own business, I left the CPA firm.  Since then my services are often requested.  Much of what I needed to know about accounting for this venture was already in place.  The business admin part did surprise me at times, but that was not difficult to figure out. I do continue to keep my eyes and ears open to the new tax laws and the newest technology that helps business report finances.  Continuous learning is key to growth in business.   Currently, I'm focusing on profit ideas & methods so as business owners we can keep more of it.

(more) Business owners should be keeping an eye on expenses paid from business accounts each and every month.  Good accounting & bookkeeping services produce financials each month from the prior month's transactions reconciled to the bank and credit card statements.  Owners can make quick, decisive decisions about spending and growing by reviewing those reports and asking good questions.   One of the damaging habits that often plague small businesses is co-mingling funds--paying personal expenses with company bank or credit accounts.  This habit weakens the business.  The first expenses to cut are all personal expenses--cut them out of the business.  Then look at general expenses. What is not necessary? Is there a less expensive option?  Finally, look at cost of sales, the cost of providing the service or product to your ultimate customer.   Business owners who have complete information about their business situation have increased opportunity to make decisions that will stimulate growth in their business--improving revenue or cutting expenses--simply because they are informed.  At Mountain Valley Bookkeeping, our focus is timely reporting and helpful advisory services for the growing business.  Contact us today for your bookkeeping and payroll needs. Let's talk to see if working together would make sense.  972-559-4110
