One pattern I see often when working with students is this:

Some of the most capable students are also the most overwhelmed.

They may be bright, capable, and hardworking — yet still struggle to keep track of assignments, manage time, or start tasks without reminders.

From the outside, it can look like lack of motivation. But underneath, it’s often difficulty managing competing demands and expectations.

Curious — are you seeing more students feeling overwhelmed despite having strong abilities?

Homework battles are one of the most common struggles families describe to me.

What looks like defiance or lack of effort is often something else — difficulty with executive function skills like starting tasks, organizing materials, or managing time.

When students don’t know where to begin, frustration builds on both sides — for the student and the parent.

In many cases, the issue isn’t behavior — it’s overwhelm.

Curious — when families talk about homework struggles, what patterns do you notice most often?
