I have been in the finance industry for most of my corporate career. I worked for a nationwide consumer finance company and a large regional bank. I have worked in the Real Estate Industry as a real estate sales person and a residential mortgage lender. I am also a real estate investor and now a commissioned Notary Public. I felt that becoming a Notary Public and Notary (Loan) Signing Agent rounds out my ability in the real estate industry to assist borrowers, sellers, escrow companies, title companies and signing companies with their closings. What is the role of a Notary Public? The National Notary Association notes: A Notary Public is an official of integrity appointed by state government - typically by the secretary of state - to serve the public as an impartial witness in performing a variety of official fraud-deterrent acts related to the signing of important documents. These official acts are called NOTARIZATIONS, or NOTARIAL ACTS. Notaries are publicly commissioned as ‘ministerial’ officials, meaning that they are expected to follow written rules without the exercise of significant personal disruption, as would otherwise be the case with a ‘judicial’ official.

What is the role of a Notary (Loan) Signing Agent (NSA)? The role a Notary (Loan) Signing Agent is to walk through the set of loan documents with the borrower and witness them in signing the paperwork. The NSA would also need to verify the identity of signers, place the notary stamp on the signed documents, then send them back to the escrow company.
