Homework battles are one of the most common struggles families describe to me.
What looks like defiance or lack of effort is often something else — difficulty with executive function skills like starting tasks, organizing materials, or managing time.
When students don’t know where to begin, frustration builds on both sides — for the student and the parent.
In many cases, the issue isn’t behavior — it’s overwhelm.
Curious — when families talk about homework struggles, what patterns do you notice most often?

One thing I see often when working with teens is that missing assignments are rarely about laziness.
Most students actually feel overwhelmed — not unmotivated.
When tasks feel unclear or too big, many students don’t know where to start, so they avoid the work altogether. Over time, this gets misunderstood as procrastination or lack of effort.
In reality, many students need structure — not pressure.
Curious — when students struggle with follow-through, what do you think is the biggest challenge they face?

Hi everyone — I’m Carla, a Certified Executive Function Coach working with teens and college students who struggle with organization, procrastination, and follow-through.
Many of the families I work with feel exhausted from homework battles, missing assignments, and constant reminders — and students often feel overwhelmed and discouraged.
My work focuses on helping students build structure, confidence, and independence, while helping parents step out of the role of constant reminder.
I especially enjoy connecting with therapists, educators, tutors, and pediatricians who support families and teens.
