We have a barrier free building and grounds. We offer outdoor weddings-graduation parties-and we have a beautiful two story building with a capacity of 150 on each level. My answer to that is yes and no ----If you are detail oriented and can take care of all receipts everyday and use a program like Quickbooks or the like you will be fine. If this does not describe you then you may want to hire someone to help quarterly or semi-annually for taxes, etc.

I have found you have to ask for recommendations. When you send your thank you followup furnish them with sites they can review you on. I have from time to time offered a 10% coupon that they can pass on to anyone who may be interested in booking. Run other events at your venue for the...

Run other events at your venue for the community...we do Pumpkin Fest in the Fall and Hot Dogs with Santa in December. That way you bring in all generations--we book a lot of parties that way cooperate and families. Be creative you just have to get a feel for your market and what has worked in your area....collaborate with other businesses to do an event. Good Luck

However, you can control a certain amount of that by the bricks and thoughts you lay out in the very beginning at your first tour, for example, we use a rental application with a question for all of the things that need to be made clear about our rental policies. In the workplace as in business sometimes we fail due to assumption. I have learned that assuming they should know just makes more work confusion and hard feelings for me.

I enjoy the challenges that each new event brings and finding the right solution. I have clients that remember me like an old friend even after many years have passed. That gives me joy and sense of making a difference even if only for 1 day in their lives.

Always smile and stay calm in the heat of disaster.

The most important meeting is the planning. All families have traditions and expectations, be sure to ask what they are and how they would like to exhibit those-Food-Music-Games-Color scheme..how the tables are set up, etc.
Family reunions in the Midwest are traditionally picnic at a park. The psychology of that is "why should we pay" and "It's how much"? Find out why they are seeking your expertise and what they expect to get for the money. I am guessing California is a lot more accustom to your type of services, so some of those objections may never come up.
Food is the heartbeat of a lot of families so keying in on that is very important. Make sure you have flexible caterers that will take a family recipe and duplicate for them. That way they don't feel guilty because they are not making someone's favorite dish.
Reunions are all about family and friends enjoying time together. If you can paint that picture for them they will book every time.
Personal note--email--text depends on the vendor and situation. I find most of our vendors just like a follow-up call to let them know how the event went-suggestions-compliments,etc. I also make sure to use them for our fundraisers when we need someone.
