Macphee’s Accounting & Consulting Ltd. is your local full service accounting firm, serving Moncton and Atlantic Canada, since 2007. We can help you save money. In some cases we have saved people more money than we have billed them.

How We Got Started

I opened my business because I knew there were a lot of small businesses in Moncton that couldn't afford to hire a full time accountant but needed the advice of a professional accountant. I knew that I had the knowledge and experience to help these businesses. I also wanted to create new jobs.

Bank statements show you how much money you have in the bank and all of the withdrawals and deposits that have been processed through your account. They do not give an indication of profitability. They do not give an indication of profitability. The balance sheet lists all your assets, liabilities and equity. It gives a good insight as to the financial health of the organization. The income statements indicates profitability by matching income and expenses for the period. The cash flow statement shows an organizations ability to pay bills as they come due.

You may also opt to reduce your spending during times of excess cash in order to fund the periods of negative cash. Budgeting and planning tends to reduce the surprises and allows you to have more options for problem resolution as opposed to a fire fighting strategy with limited options.

I started my business for a number of reasons. First, I didn't find working for others allowed me to fully utilize my skills and my potential. I am a decision maker and I like to learn on a continuous basis. I can do both running my own business. Also, I knew there were a lot of small businesses in my area that needed the help of a professional accountant. I enjoy helping people and it is rewarding to save people money and to reduce the taxes that they have to pay. I also employ others and it is rewarding to create a work environment where people enjoy coming to work.

Most businesses are required to use the accrual method of accounting. That means estimating unrecorded revenues and expenses that apply to the year. Perhaps a project is 25% complete and isn't invoiced until completion. The revenues for 25% of the project would be accrued to the year that the work was performed in. The same applies to bills that have not been received yet but the expense applies to the year just completed. Again, an accrual is set up to put the expense in the year that it relates to.

Credit card statements are not sufficient by themselves as documentation. You need the sales document that shows what you bought and what taxes were paid.
