I live in Mooresville, NC. I have a pottery studio at my home and have been doing pottery for many years. I enjoy doing hand thrown pottery on the wheel and also hand built pottery. I love making pottery that is an art form to appreciate, but also functional to use. My specialty is horse hair pottery which is wheel thrown pottery that is fired with horse hair on it leaving a very distinct black and white pattern around the sides. I can customize a piece with your horse's own tail hair on a vase, plate or bowl. Although Horse Hair Pottery is not functional, each piece is unique and has it's own story to share.
My mom is credited with getting me to take a workshop on Horse Hair Pottery due to her Cherokee Indian heritage. Individual strands of "tail hair" from horses is placed on the pots as they come out of the kiln at 1600 degrees causing the black patterns. After taking my new pots to show my family what I had learned, everyone thought it would be a great idea to sell these along with my functional pottery. When I commented that nobody would buy anything made from a "horse's ass", the name of my pottery company was born. And thus...the name says it all. A little wine may have been consumed during this family discussion, but no horses have been harmed during the process of making this pottery!
