(more) Dear Terrified, In the words of past President Bill Clinton, "I feel your pain...".  I too am an introvert, in my 31 st year of sales and self - employed.  As the previous answers suggested you are metaphorically pushing a rock uphill - opposing natural forces - selling as an introvert. Parachute is a great resource as suggested!  Another good read is Quiet, by Susan Cain. Susan tackles the concept of sales by an introvert and points out that Dale Carnegie, the world authority on public speaking, basic sales and personal skills was an introvert and self employed.  I suggest spending a week focused on introspection before you do any marketing, networking, or job searching. Review Parachute, Quiet, and other resources: Gardner - Intelligence Reframed; Rath, Rath & Conchie - Strengths Finder; Keirsey, Keirsey & Bates - Please Understand Me I & II; Anderson - The Confidence Course (older book)...and the bibles; Carnegie - Win Friends & Influence People; and Napoleon Hill's, Think & Grow Rich (although Dale Carnegie repeats much of this in his book.  Some sources indicate that Carnegie's book outsold the original actual Bible.  You can do what you describe, and if you program your mind, it can even be fun and invigorating; but is that what you want?  It will always be challenging.  Still, there are other vocations and activities that are rewarding that nicely align with introversion. No matter what you do, you will have to calm the demons of cold calling, because life requires cold calling to live. If you are in sales and consulting (double sales) you will need to make many more cold calls every day, than most of us.  Quiet and Win Friends and Influence people are essential reads if you want to understand what you are facing. Erickson, the psychologist, spent his life helping people overcome reluctance to face things they dread. Grinder and Bandler refined much of his work and explain how you can reshape your efforts and succeed at what you are considering undertaking.  But before heading to the library or hitting Amazon - sit down with Parachute and carefully consider your  under valued or under considered options.

(more) Real estate sales, like all politics, is local. While there are general expectations (as you see reflected in the other answers posted); there are also exceptions to those which may be more applicable in your area.  There are times when selling FSBO can be as effective as engaging a representative; but those times are not common. You can only be certain by investigating the market and the successful transactions and actors engaged in them. But, then as another answer suggested, why incur all that effort, when you could have delegated the representation process in the beginning? My work is not usual residential real estate; and I review many transactions every day in investigating the local markets for investors located around the globe. I have delivered some of the greatest purchase values to my clients, when I arranged purchases from FSBO sellers.  I am of the opinion that FSBO is not beneficial for most real estate sellers.
