I first quip with a smile that contrary to popular belief, toys don't come from the North Pole, they come from China. I explain that our factories have excellent working conditions, are audited by third parties, they give opportunity to mainly young people to elevate their station in society. They are well dressed, receive medical care, all meals and dormitory provided by the factory. In addition, the Chinese government enforces strict rules on minimum wages, working hours, working conditions, etc., which are getting more stringent over time. As far as exporting jobs, it's interesting to note that according to one university study, only a single digit percentage of the total economic activity caused by any one particular product is attributable to the factory. The vast majority of the revenue of a product "Made" in China is earned by parties in the the U.S. which include the designer, maker, importer, the accountant, employees, warehouse, distributors, retailer, shipping companies, insurance agencies, taxing agencies, and all of the unseen hands required to create and take a product to market.
