Loaves & Fishes Community Services
The mission of Loaves & Fishes Community Services is to provide food and leadership in the community by uniting and mobilizing resources to empower people to be self-sufficient. Loaves & Fishes is a registered 501(c)(3) organization that has served the community since 1984, with a vision to end hunger and transform lives within our community.
We Believe That Food is a Right, Not a Privilege
The Loaves & Fishes food program provides reliable access to a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, grains, proteins, milk and eggs with an emphasis on special care populations such as infants, children and seniors. Last year, our organization distributed 3,850,492 lbs. of food, of which sixty percent was recovered from 24 grocery partners. Our food recovery model ensures that fresh produce is available to our clients daily. Of the 18,798 individuals we served last year, 7,950 were children. Clients shop in a client choice market which emphasizes dignity, nutrition and healthy options. Seniors who are unable to visit our market are served through our home distribution program and a mobile market.
We Give People Access to Resources for a Brighter Future
Our Loaves & Fishes CARES Programs provide low-income families with support to meet immediate needs and educational programs/services to achieve long-term self-sufficiency. Our Emergency Assistance Program helps to prevent homelessness by providing emergency financial assistance for basic needs like rent and utilities. Our Car Donation Program helps individuals maintain employment by providing reliable transportation with a donated vehicle. We also offer computer classes, emotional support/counseling, ELA classes, financial literacy, computer classes, job search support, Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA), Moving Up, nutrition/health initiatives, public benefit assistance and other support services to improve the lives of families that are struggling. We collaborate with community partners to offer programs and resources to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.
As a Community, We Succeed When Everyone Succeeds
The success of Loaves & Fishes depends on its community, and has over 1,482 registered volunteers who are integral to daily operations, and is supported by the generosity of thousands of individuals, businesses, faith communities, and organizations who believe in our mission. We are united by our shared values of community, compassion, dignity, hope, and service. Together we can help others create their own bright future stories.
