I do write about locations that I've been to in the past. And to places I haven't been to, I research them. I might write fiction, but some things ought to be authenticated to give the story realism.

Absolutely. It is especially cogent in this day and age where writers must show not tell in their narratives. That compels one to come up with metaphoric phrases and words that are normally under cobwebs back on the bookshelf.
