Driven by her passion for connection and community, Tammy founded Women Beyond the Table (2020–2025), a vibrant virtual network dedicated to supporting women in business through collaboration, leadership development, and personal growth. She expanded this work by launching the Women Beyond the Table Podcast, which highlights powerful stories and insights from women leaders and engages audiences through thoughtful conversation and storytelling.
Tammy is also an award-winning and bestselling author. Her first book, Text Messages to My Sons: Connecting Deeply in a World of Devices (2023), quickly gained recognition as a practical and impactful resource for parents navigating communication in the digital age. Through this work, Tammy discovered her deeper mission: helping parents transform everyday messaging into opportunities for connection, trust, and reframing communication with their teenage and adult children. This mission led to the expanded follow-up edition, Text Messages to My Sons: A Guide to Using Mobile Devices to Communicate and Connect with Your Kids.
A frequent podcast guest and media contributor, Tammy speaks on connection and messaging, leadership, parenting, communication, relationships, and the importance of human connection in the digital world. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY Albany and a Master of Business Administration from the Zicklin School of Business at Baruch College.
Tammy lives in Manhattan with her husband and three sons. Together, she and her husband co-own Eighteen Restaurant, a beloved Upper East Side destination where community, conversation, and warm hospitality are always on the menu

I find being open and friendly; listening and being genuinely interested in what a person is saying is key.  Finding the things in common and building from there.  I always follow up and its not about asking for anything, its about being a human being first and the business flows from there.  During the pandemic, I received an incredible level of support from my Networks in helping me to build my consulting business and offer new services.  I always enjoy exchanging ideas and connecting people with each other - for no personal gain.  There is a Karma to it because new opportunities have been coming my way because of it.

But at the end of the day we are all human and living in a time of great uncertainty.  Businesses are trying to survive and "adapt" which creates more uncertainty.  I always ask how they are doing first and foremost.  It important to try to find something in common.  I research the person or company prior and typically I will find something that we have in common and add it to the conversation to engage.  It is important to me to understand where they are at.  Before you can offer any services or solutions that will make them money, save them money, add some type of value or help them attract new customers you need to gain trust.   A random email or too wordy email is a turn off. When you establish that there is a connection and trust and that you can provide something of value, move the conversation to a zoom call.  I really appreciate forums and platforms like this for connecting online.

I have not used mobile billboard advertising.  I think it is very interesting and have seen it in action - but its not something that I would use for my business,  I find it is a bit mass and not targeted enough for my purposes. (more) Its all about communicating to your customers frequently and letting them know the procedures and protocols that you have put in place or will put in place to ensure that your business is safe to shop in or order from.  Also that your employees health and safety is a top priority and the protocols and procedures they are engaging in to maintain high levels of hygiene as well as counter top , bathroom and overall store sanitizing.  Businesses should have hand sanitizing stations in obvious locations, masks and gloves available for employees and customers and make sure that it is clear to anyone coming in etc that they are to being worn. Marking areas for customers to stand in or limiting the number of customers who can enter the space is helpful.  Plexiglas dividers should be installed where appropriate to keep distance between people.   For take out business, curbside pickup and contact free zones for pick up should be created. There is impressive and affordable software available that tracks employees and can track customers entering via IPAD that are on stands.  It can also scan body temperatures. The stand can even dispense hand sanitizing product at same time.  Anyone interested in more information can contact me for this.

(more) Its true that during down times and fiscal challenges that cuts are made and marketing and advertising takes a hit.  However, during these times it is so important to communicate with your customers.  I encourage businesses to communicate and utilize digital platforms that dont require a big investment to do this.    Most businesses know who their customers are - know who is loyal and whether it is via text, email, e newsletters, SM just reach out.  Its the best marketing you can do to stay connected.  Be authentic on your communication channels, be consistent, empathetic and uplifting.  Think of creative ways to bring humor or sometype of engagment depending on what your business is.  Share your story and be authentic.  Selling is important but dont be tone deaf.  I encourage businesses to sell in a way that is helpful to your customers, that helps them to celebrate a graduate for example.    I tell businesses that you can boost your digital reach for very affordable pricing too.  Its just important to let people, your customers, know that, you are there and going through these times with them and share anything uplifting.  I do feel that there will be a shift where customers will want to support small businesses and get out and go to a retail store - with all the protocols in place!  So businesses need  to engage and market in a smart way so that customers remember them and want to support their business.
