About Us

Uncertainty around securing sponsors can delay opportunities to fund and grow your event. Roberta Vigilance teaches and advises through a simple, clear, and reliable framework that helps you gain clarity, improve your approach, and secure sponsors for any event.

How We Got Started

Roberta Vigilance started her business in 1999 and was looking for money to cover the cost of her events. Leveraging her sales background, she sold her events to local businesses in her community before she knew sponsorship existed.

When she approached corporate brands the same way she approached local businesses, she was repeatedly turned down. It was during one of those conversations that she learned her approach was called sponsorship. Roberta adjusted her language and went on to secure corporate, local, and media sponsors.

Roberta teaches and advises on how to approach and secure sponsors for events.

Roberta's framework for approaching sponsors is simple, clear, and reliable. It has helped professionals gain clarity, improve their approach, and secure sponsors.

It allows me to let a group of professionals know my business exists. It allows me to inform them about what my business does. It lets those who are seeking sponsorship for their events know that I can help them secure sponsors. It allows me to be among like-minded individuals who are proactive, trailblazing, and vulnerable at times, while also getting to know the person behind the business. It gives me access to the products and services I need to grow my business, but instead of cold leads, they come either as referrals or from seeing their business on my profile page. It reminds me that business can also be personal because of the access I have to the staff at Alignable, most of whom are just an email or referral away. I engage with legends like Maury Kosh, who has been in marketing longer than most of today’s marketing gurus who only follow trends without knowing the foundation. It extends my reach because of professionals like Corey Northington, who consistently engages with my posts and makes referrals. Carl Lucchi, who runs the 15+30 Networking Event and is a member on Alignable, shared at one of the events that people tend to forget these platforms were meant for social purposes, hence being called social media platforms. We often forget to socialize and focus only on business. On this platform, as with all the social media platforms I’m on, I’m there to let people know about my business and how it can help them achieve their goals. However, on Alignable, it's also about building relationships that lead to encouragement, like with Mike Keller, whether you do or don’t need it, but it’s nice to have. I am connected with some of the people who have commented here. If any one of them were to contact me and say, “Roberta, I need this” or “I would like your support with this,” they would likely receive my support. I believe they would likely do the same for me. Unlike the website created for event planners by Erick Davis Sr., where my pure demographic is, I’m still able to find my ideal audience on Alignable by entering the information they’ve laid out for both free and paid members to fill out. Alignable was created as a "referral" platform. So, to refer, it’s best to get to "personally" know other business owners. These are some of the things that Alignable does for me. To illustrate the power of social media, I want to share an example involving Ben Gay III, the author of the best-selling book series The Closers. Although I met him on another social media platform, his influence on my journey is a testament to the connections that can be made online. Ben, who coined the phrase "People do business with those they know, like, trust, and whom they feel comfortable," a phrase many now know as "KLT," endorsed my book How To Secure Sponsors Successfully and gave it the NAPS (National Association of Professional Salespeople) approval. When I asked him why he endorsed my book, he said it was because he had been following my work on social media for a very long time. While Alignable may be a different platform, the power of social media to connect with influential individuals like Ben is evident across all platforms. The journey to my destination in business still relies on me, but it has become much more pleasant meeting people with so much history who are willing to share their knowledge and insights with newcomers like myself.  It’s undeniably true that a business needs to make money—especially when it’s your sole source of income, supporting your personal needs, bills, and responsibilities. I’ve gained and given business on Alignable.  While social connections are essential, finding the balance between building relationships and ensuring financial stability is crucial for your growth and peace of mind. Roberta Great question!

(more) When I launched my business, I spent zero time researching the competition because I wasn't aware that there were any.  I decided to research one day, after getting asked repeatedly who is my competition, and found that there were other businesses and professionals that provided (I believe) very similar services. What I found was disturbing to say the least...  I found gigantic and emerging businesses and professionals were repeating what I've shared online but would change a few words here and there to make it their own. I even read someone's bio that shared that she (too) is self taught in securing sponsors - I taught myself in the late 90's and read her post after 2013. Coincidence? Maybe.  I spent years and up to recently fretting about copy cats. Each person I'm sure has or had a reason for doing it whether it is to annoy me, get me to quit, maximize their reach or growth, or for whatever other reason that is no longer my business.  Never will I look at competition again because I continue to see me so in reality I am only competing with myself and improving my business.

Someone in my network asked a very similar question earlier in the year. I referred her to someone who specializes in helping teams become motivated and get on the same page. She's liking her team's progress. I can refer you if you'd like.  (more) Someone in my network asked a very similar question earlier in the year.
