Thank you, @Roy Balfour for introducing me to your Rotary Club.  They're a great example of a locally-focussed non-profit that could do a lot more good in their community with $10,000-$20,000 of additional charitable revenue to invest (donate!) around the community.  I've had great conversations with them about doing a "Dinner On Us" restaurant fundraiser that will • support 25 local restaurants,  • raise funds for the Rotary Club,  • give people in the community a way to donate a bit AND  • give donors a chance to win the RIDICULOUS grand prize of 25-$100 gift cards to hand-picked local restaurants.  I'll report back to you as we reach milestones.

If you have a long history of recurring transactions, I'd encourage you to adopt ACH payments along with credit cards and consider adding a convenience fee for customers who choose to pay with a credit card for some reason.  Then, for credit card processing, I recommend that you only accept a proposal with an "Interchange Pass-Through" pricing model and a (stupidly named) discount rate of 0.20% or lower, $.20/transaction or lower, and $20/month in standard monthly fees. Processing, like your vision, should be "20-20" or better. Happy to explain any portion of this that is not perfectly understandable to you. John.  Transparency matters most.

If it's possible, you want your customers to pay by ACH, and you should motivate them to do so because the cost-basis is so much lower than credit card processing.  There are compelling software services that may be compelling to accelerate your time-to-payment, as well. If you want to provide your customers with an option to pay by credit card, you should be able to secure very competitive rates of approximately .10% & $0.10 cents per transaction based on the volume you described.  Happy to help you any way I can, if you like.

(more) Monica, the answer is more specific to you, your business, your needs for your business, and your level of comfort with various types of customer service. Square, PayPal, and other "fixed rate" services are effective but more expensive than a full-service payment processor that provides service using a pass-through pricing model. I have the math in every version to demonstrate how much (more) you would pay in any scenario, and I'm happy to share it.  And I'll do it for anyone who commented on your question. I'm quite surprised to see "clinicians" using Square, but they may be processing less than $5k/month, in which case it might make financial sense.

That could very reasonably include reach, visibility, or new sales generated, or returning sales generated, or "branding." You must start by knowing what result you want to generate, and then you will want to have a way of measuring that. Often, businesses don't seem to know one or the other or both. "Start with the end in mind" is a very productive perspective.
